MXit Childline

Did you know?

Childline

MXit has partnered with Childline SA to provide a professional counselling service for its users who may feel burdened by stressful situations. The chatroom service is strictly confidential and fully backed by Childline’s trained counsellors who are on hand to offer counseling on a one-on-one basis:

  • You cannot enter a room without a counsellor present. When the counselling session ends, the room is locked
  • Only the counsellor will know that you are in the chatroom
  • To ensure that your experience is conducted in a professional manner, a qualified psychiatrist has been commissioned to oversee the counselling process.

We understand that teenagers and young people live in stressful times and believe that MXit’s Childline chatroom service will assist them in their time of need.

Currently, the counselling service is available to MXit users in South Africa and Kenya. The South African Childline chatroom can be accessed via Tradepost from Monday to Saturday (2pm – 6pm) for twenty Moola (20 cents). The user will receive a thousand messages that can be used to chat directly to a counsellor. Counsellors are available on the Kenyan chatroom, at no cost, from Monday to Friday (8 am - 5 pm).

We see this initiative as a complementary mobile offering to the existing Childline service, and plan to roll it out in other countries.
